Our story

From 'Scratch in a year' to a full service digital agency

From a journey of graphic design, record labels, band management, digital music and tech start-ups, Albatross was founded off the back of 15 years of digital transformation.

May 2014

James, Managing Director & Founder of Albatross, took solace in golf nine years ago. Faced with an unexpected career road bump, he took up the game and hasn’t looked back since.

At the time, somewhat unknowing to the world of golf, James had given himself the goal of getting to ‘Scratch In A Year’, documenting his progression on YouTube and other social media channels. The challenge didn’t last long but it led to a light bulb moment.

Jan 2015

The birth of Albatross. On his failed journey to scratch, James realised that many golf businesses needed help with their digital transformation. Coming from the world of music, James took on the slightly different world of golf, and one of his very first clients was the 2015 London Golf Show working alongside a young Rick Shiels and Peter Finch.

April 2016

One of our first golf club clients was one of the World's Top 100 and Home of England Golf, Woodhall Spa. We started working with them on a three-month trial, and several years later, Woodhall Spa remains one of our most valued clients.

Nov 2017

James led a talk on digital marketing and social media at the 2017 GCMA conference which leads to an influx of new clients and from here the team begins to grow.

Jan 2021

Albatross rebrands as a perception breaking golf communications agency with a new post-covid positioning and service offering. We launched our mission, to accelerate golf’s digital evolution to drive the golfing revolution.

May 2021

The team began playing with Webflow in late 2020 and the rest is history. Now every website we produce is developed in Webflow and the whole team are fully-fledged Webflow evangelists. We built and launched our first website for Stonebridge Golf Club and look to push the boundaries of web development.

June 2022

7 years on, we started working with Rick Shiels again and a whole host of influencers with NTT DATA at the 150th Open, AIG Women’s Open and BMW International Open.

A guitarist and die-hard Arsenal fan with a passion for photography and videography, fortunately, James' marketing skills are 10 times better than his golf game. And trust us, that's not saying much!

Creative Director

Sam started his career in television in the late 90s and the rest is history. His work has spanned across the BBC, Channel 4, ITV and Sky.

Meet the "Dad of Designs"! By day, Sebastian is a multi-talented creative in graphics, videography, and UI design. After hours, he utilises his super-dad powers for good, saving the world one design and one diaper change at a time!

A St Andrews graduate and lover of links golf, Robert is a true sports nut who dedicates his Saturdays to following Watford up and down the country.

Loraine Steyn
Digital Marketing Manager

A nature lover, tennis ace and wine aficionado, Loraine blended her passion for entrepreneurship with her analytical thinking and creative skills to pursue a career as a digital marketing specialist.
